Program Description:

The Hartt School is the internationally acclaimed performing arts conservatory of the University of Hartford. Hartt students receive intense music, dance, or theatre training offered in a conservatory environment with the diversity and opportunities that only a college campus can provide. Founded in 1920 by Julius Hartt, Moshe Paranov and associated teachers, Hartt was one of three institutions that combined to create the University of Hartford in
1957. The Hartt School presents more than 400 performances a year ranging from individual student recitals to major performances by choruses, jazz ensembles, wind ensembles and orchestra; fully-staged plays, musicals, and
operas; dance performances; and concerts by the Miami String Quartet, Hartt’s quartet-in-residence, and the Lions Gate Trio, Hartt’s resident trio.

The Hartt School’s graduate programs reflect the contemporary needs of students entering a vast array of creative performance and teaching careers. Students have opportunities to grow and thrive under the guidance of faculty recognized nationally and internationally for their artistic and academic accomplishments. The Hartt School faculty members are the recipients of major awards, fellowships, and grants and have appeared at the world’s greatest performance venues. Hartt’s faculty are committed to and are proud of the select student body and work hard to ensure the high quality of Hartt’s graduate programs. Our intimate graduate program ensures that students
participate in many performance opportunities as well as personal career development experiences facilitated by faculty and guest artists/lecturers.
