Program Information

Degree Offered

M.I.P. - Master in International Policy

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The Master in International Policy (MIP) is administered by the Department of International Affairs. The MIP is designed to train students in international policy implementation and analysis for careers in the private and public sector. The degree is designed to be flexible, and allows students to focus on any combination of geographical and policy domains. Geographical areas include Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America, and policy domains include foreign policy, globalization, democratization, political and economic development, and security policy.

The Department of International Affairs began offering the Master of International Policy (MIP) degree in Fall 2009. The world is becoming smaller, increasingly connecting global citizens, governments and non-governmental organizations in a global village. This interdependence or “globalization” is at once a great challenge and a great opportunity. In an effort to understand these global dynamics, students must be appropriately educated in comparative and international politics from language training to foreign area studies and theories of international behavior.

Increasingly, a master’s degree is considered an entry-level degree for individuals seeking careers in international affairs in the public, private and non-governmental sectors. The MIP is designed to meet the growing demand for well-trained individuals versed in global policy implementation and practice. The MIP draws upon the expertise housed in the International Affairs program with a faculty that contains nationally and internationally respected scholars and practitioners, as well as a cadre of talented young scholars. In addition, students in the MIP can take classes from any of the faculty within the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA), depending upon their career objectives and interests.
