Program Information
Degree Offered
M.A. - Romance Languages;, Ph.D. - Romance Languages
Program Description:
The Department of Romance Languages offers graduate programs in French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish leading to M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. We are one of the most productive departments at the University of Georgia, with a large faculty of professors who specialize in research on literature, linguistics and film.
Our graduate programs favor a contextualized and integrated approach to the research of language and cultural production. Texts are studied as components in a broad network of interrelated artistic, political, and economic practices and institutions. The learning process is structured in such a way as to combine language, culture and theory both at the level of individual courses and in the graduate curriculum as a whole.
We currently have a large and diverse group of graduate students from the USA, Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America working together in a collegial environment. Students complete the requirements for the M.A. in 2 years and the requirements for the Ph.D. in 4-5 years.
