Program Description:

The Middle School Education Program offers two Masters degree programs. The Master of Education degree (MEd) is for individuals who already hold middle grades (4 through 8) certification. The Master of Arts in Teaching in Middle School Education (MAT) is for individuals who wish to gain initial certification along with earning a Masters degree.

The Master of Education (MEd) degree in Middle School Education is most appropriate for applicants who are already certified to teach children in grades 4-8. However, individuals with certification in other areas and those who are not certified but who have an interest in the education of young adolescents may also find the program to be valuable. Note, however, that initial certification cannot be earned through the MEd program.

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree program is intended for individuals who hold a bachelors degree and wish to gain teaching certification while working on a master’s degree. The MAT in Middle School Education culminates in certification in grades 4-8 in two content areas.

The College of Education unit and its programs are accredited by the National Council on Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GPSC).
