The MA in art history requires 36 credit hours. Students take 28 hours of graduate courses with at least five art history professors. Up to nine credits may be taken in related areas with the approval of the chair of the supervisory committee. (For example, those interested in African art may want to take advantage of courses offered through the Center for African Studies.) In addition, three credits must be taken in methodology and bibliography in preparation for thesis research. Six credits of thesis research culminating in an original thesis complete the degree requirements., Ph.D.- Art History.

Program Description:
30 semester hour MA in Art History; specialties in Western and Non-Western art available. The Art History program at the University of Florida, which has expanded significantly in size and scope in recent years, offers both the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees. The M.A. is designed for students wishing to pursue the Ph.D. in Art History and for those interested in gallery, museum or other professional positions related to the visual arts. The Ph.D. prepares students for academic and curatorial careers in a range of fields. The interdisciplinary curriculum provides the intellectual foundation necessary for developing critical judgment as well as the specialized training needed to conduct advanced scholarly research. Students work closely with faculty in courses, seminars and individual research projects to develop independent thought as well as thorough knowledge of the field and its critical methods.
