Program Description:

Our Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies offers supervision for PhD Literature in all fields of staff research interest, which includes a wide range of expertise in different literatures and in varying approaches to literature, covering most aspects of early modern and modern writing in English and a number of other languages. The titles of just a few of the books published by members of our Department in 2010 and 2011 give some indication of the extent and range of our research interests: Cuba’s Wild East: Towards a Literary Geography of Oriente; The Intimate and the Extimate: Violence and Gender in the Globalized World; After the Fall: American Literature Since 9/11.

A number of our graduates have gone on to undertake successful careers as writers. Other past students are now established as scholars, university lecturers, teachers, publishers, publishers’ editors, journalists, arts administrators, theatre artistic directors, drama advisers, and translators.

Accreditation:

Postgraduate study qualification from the University of Essex.

Eligibility Requirements:

A good Honours degree or Masters, or equivalent, in a relevant subject area.

International Student Requirements:

IELTS 7.0 or equivalent.
