Program Description:
The joint directors of this MA can be counted among the leading experts in the world in gender analysis teaching, curriculum development research, and consultancy. This MA provides a rigorous analysis of gender relations in development, covering theoretical approaches to gender as well as policy applications in planning and projects. You will study core courses in gender perspectives in development issues; gender analysis in policy and planning, and researching gender for development, and will have the opportunity to select options from a range of topics including the theory of development, industrialisation, rural development, politics, environment and society, and analysis of projects and programmes. If you have some experience of working with gender issues in a developing country, your application will be particularly welcome. This programme offers a research stream - the MA in Gender Analysis in Development (Research) - aimed at those interested in pursuing research in gender analysis, or a career in professional gender and development research with development agencies. This is a one year, MPhil/PhD track Masters degree which combines the mainstream courses in gender analysis, with specialist courses in research techniques, and development studies epistemologies. Please note that this programme is approved for the receipt by UK or EU students of an ESRC quota studentship.
