Degree Offered
MSc Geoinformatics
Format: Campus
Program Description:
The MSc Geoinformatics is jointly taught by the Schools of Environmental Sciences and Computing Sciences. It equips students to deal with the challenges of a rapidly increasing flood of geographical or spatial information as a result of advances in remote sensing and data collection devices, the increasing importance of geospatial information to many large organisations, and the developing market in spatial and geo-referenced information for the mobile Web.
The course provides students from computing or geo-sciences backgrounds with a good grasp of the core issues and technologies involved in handling spatial or geographic information. Students completing this course should be equipped to follow careers in managing, presenting and analysing spatial and geographic information, or developing spatial and geographic systems and applications in a wide variety of organisations and application areas.
Students on this course can select modules covering data acquisition, information management, modeling, data mining, geographic information systems, and a wide range of environmental sciences topics. The individual programme depends on the student's background and interests. The taught units are complemented by a dissertation project, in which students can integrate and deepen their knowledge to address a geoinformatics topic in greater depth.
