Program Description:
This course is designed to provide an academic qualification for those intending to become (or who already are) professional translators, for example in the field of publishing or in a freelance capacity. It contains a large practical component and places a strong emphasis on stylistic and cultural issues. Students work on their own translations throughout the course and there is also opportunity for involvement in editing and publishing the LLT in-house journal Norwich Papers. The course runs in close co-operation with the British Centre for Literary Translation and draws on the expertise of the Centre's visiting Translators in Residence. The compulsory units are currently: Product and Process in Translation, Stylistics, Translators on Translating.
