Program Description:

Our programs provide a unique curriculum focusing on the social, economic, cultural, legal and public policy implications of the mass media and allow students to specialize in particular areas to prepare them for careers in media research, public relations, journalism, video production, media criticism, advertising, media management and media regulation and policy. The department also maintains state-of-the-art production and post-production video facilities.The department of media, film and journalism studies' graduate programs offers a broad-based understanding of the role and operation of the mass media in contemporary society as well as the creation of stories and messages for distribution through various channels.
Students may choose from four specialized programs: an M.A. in media, film and journalism studies, student-designed emphasis; an M.A. in media, film and journalism studies, video production emphasis; an M.S. in strategic communication; or an M.S. in advertising management.
Students may also choose various dual-degree program combinations including: an M.S. in advertising management/M.A. in video production; an M.S. in strategic communication/M.A. in video production; an M.S. in advertising management/M.S. in strategic communication; and an M.A. in media, film and journalism studies/J.D. (with the Sturm College of Law).
