Program Description:

Volatile. Challenging. Exciting. Lucrative. The fast-paced field of real estate and construction management is without a doubt one of the most competitive in the business world. Leadership skills, management training and business acumen are in demand, yet most real estate professionals do not have a graduate degree specific to their industry.

The Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management at the Daniels College of Business, University of Denver, is the only graduate program of its kind that brings these two specialties together in a business college – integrating disciplines such as finance, marketing and accounting into your degree. This unique program will give you a solid foundation in business fundamentals and how they
relate to real estate and construction.

The carefully considered programmatic structure reflects the way the real estate and construction management industries work—as twin functions within the larger context of business. Other graduate business programs teach real estate as a business discipline but refer you to engineering and architecture schools to learn about construction management.

In the real estate and construction management industries, business expertise puts you in the decision maker’s seat. As a developer, you need not be a construction expert, but you do need to know how projects are built so you can make informed business decisions. By the same token, as a real estate entrepreneur, understanding real estate finance, marketing, investments, law, accounting, business and construction issues will help you be more productive.

Students choose from three tracks: 1) construction management 2) real estate or 3) real estate and construction management. Students in the 50 credit hour program study values-based leadership and ethical decision making along with rigorous foundational courses focusing on the business of real estate and construction management.
