Program Information
Degree Offered
Ph.D.- Cinema and Media Studies
Program Description:
Beginning with the academic year 1999-2000, the University started offering a doctoral degree through the Committee on Cinema and Media Studies. Part of Chicago's long-standing tradition of cross-disciplinary study, a Committee is a degree-granting program comparable to a department; faculty, however, are drawn from various departments and disciplines. In cases where students are interested in focusing on film and media while working toward a degree in another department or committee, the Committee offers a minor concentration in Cinema and Media Studies which could take the the form of a joint degree or a certificate. A Master's degree in film studies can be pursued through the Master of Arts Program in the Humanities (MAPH) whose Cinema and Media Studies track has been developed in collaboration with the Committee.
