Program Description:
he program offers two courses of study. The general linguistics track prepares students for advanced graduate work at the Ph.D. level and is a supplement to studies in related fields. It emphasizes syntax, semantics, phonology, morphology, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, and linguistic description (contemporary or historical) of a particular language or language group. The applied linguistics track prepares students to teach English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) with a strong background in formal and descriptive linguistics.
