Program Description:
A major strength of the Department of Applied Science is its access to the scientists and facilities of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Many of the faculty have joint appointments with LLNL. Nearly all students use the facilities of the Laboratory for their thesis research. These facilities are some of the nation's best in the areas of atomic and molecular physics; computational physics; fusion technology; laser physics and nonlinear optics; materials science and condensed matter physics; plasma physics; scientific computing; and digital media. The digital media option is also available to engineers in the Silicon Valley through our fledgling and evolving Distance Education facilities.
