Program Description:

Estimated at USD 554.00 billion in 2004, the global pharmaceuticals market is forecast to register an annual growth rate of 8.2 per cent from 2004 to 2011 to reach USD 967.00 billion. The pharmaceutical industries invest considerable amounts of their revenues back into R&D. The top 20 pharmaceutical companies' expenditure on R&D equals about 19%of their total revenues. In spite of this fast growth, the pharmaceutical industry is facing challenges due to expiring blockbuster patents and fewer drugs in the pipeline and hence the thrust is on development of novel formulations and processing technologies. This has stimulated demand for highly skilled and innovative human resource globally, especially in the emerging economies.
The proposed Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Programme in MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology has been developed taking into consideration this changed requirement of the global pharmaceutical industries and the strong infrastructure and expertise available across the Schools of Life Sciences and Engineering Design and Technology.
The graduates completing the course will find opportunities in research and development, pre-formulation, formulation development, patent division, process development and the quality assurance sections of the pharmaceutical industries.
