Program Description:
Please note that this course is only for registered Biomedical Scientists working in IBMS-approved laboratories.
This course provides an advanced course of study in Biomedical Sciences with an emphasis on research training in the workplace that integrates an academic award with preparation for the submission of the IBMS Specialist Training Logbook. Elective options allow specialisation within five key areas of the study of human disease (clinical biochemistry, cell pathology, cytopathology, haematology and hospital transfusion science, medical microbiology and vascular biology). The course uses a range of teaching strategies, combined with reference to research to broaden and deepen knowledge and understanding of the Biomedical Sciences; develop management skills and enhance autonomous learning; and research and personal transferable skills to equip you to work as a Specialist Practitioner.
The course follows the standard pattern and is available at PgD and MSc level. It is currently only available part-time. There are two exit awards. The PgD for completion of the taught component only, which equates with successful completion of the Specialist Training Logbook. The MSc award for completion of the taught component and a work-based research project.
