Program Information

Degree Offered

M.S.-Criminal Justice

Format: Campus

Program Description:

UB's urban location makes it an ideal place to explore criminal justice programs and policies. The M.S. in Criminal Justice program prepares students for research-based practice and policy decision-making; it allows students to apply research theory, methods, planning and statistics to the daily decisions they face in their places of work. Professors share their practical experience as well as their academic research agendas; some are involved in funded research projects that provide opportunities for students comparable to those generally found in Ph.D. programs. Partnerships with various state and local agencies create exciting opportunities for students to interact with professionals and gain experience in the field. Students can choose to specialize in one of four areas: law enforcement, courts and law, juvenile justice or corrections. If they are interested in pursuing doctoral studies, they can choose the thesis track instead of completing the comprehensive exams.
