Program Description:
The Literature Program offers courses leading to the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in British and American literature.
Eligibility Requirements:
A writing sample in the form of a critical paper written for an upper-level literature course (maximum length 25 pages). For students entering with an MA in hand, we recommend that the writing sample be article-length, since it will serve also as a Qualifying Examination Paper.
# Applicants who have been Graduate Teaching Assistants at another institution: Include syllabis of the course(s) taught
# Official General Aptitude and Subject Test in Literature scores from the Graduate Record Examination (code should be marked 2500, 2501 or 2502). Institution Code is 4832. The GRE and Subject test scores must be dated within 5 years of enrollment.
International Student Requirements:
International students: Include Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (must be above 550). Institution Code is 4832. TOEFL score must be dated within 2 years of enrollment. International students seeking graduate teaching assistantships must also obtain, in addition to a TOEFL score of 550 (CBT 213) or higher, an acceptable score on the Test of Spoken English (TSE) or the Speaking Proficiency English Assessment Kit (SPEAK) administered by the University of Arizona.
