Program Information

Degree Offered

M.S. - General Biology program for Middle and High School Biological Science Teachers

Program Description:

Designed for middle and high school biological science teachers, this program combines biology content with modern teaching methods. Today's science education reforms recommend inquiry-driven, laboratory/field-focused curricula. This creates a need for teachers who have a greater depth of content, knowledge and experience designing a conducting experiments. This program allows participants to engage in research in an area of their own choosing and to experience scientific problem solving and critical thinking to enhance their teaching skills. This 32-unit Master of Science degree program is summer oriented, allowing in-service middle and high school biology teachers the opportunity to obtain a degree while working during the regular school year. Some independent study/distance-learning courses are required during a couple Fall or Spring semesters. In addition to a thesis, a workshop presentation to other teachers is required.
