Program Description:
CMDB is a cross-disciplinary theme at the University of Alabama in Birmingham where enthusiasm for scientific discovery through rigorous experimentation is at the forefront. UAB is one of the top 25 NIH funded research institutions in the US.
The CMDB theme consists of a diverse group of collegial scientists and physicians who have a collective interest in fundamental processes in cell, molecular, and developmental biology and how alterations in these processes result in human diseases and birth defects. Each of our faculty is committed to providing the strongest education and training in fields of cellular, molecular, and developmental biology to ensure students develop the necessary skills for a career in science. This is accomplished through a strong emphasis on research, mentoring, and hands on instruction with a curriculum that reflects rapid changes in science. The broad scientific interests and expertise of our faculty along with the collaborative nature fostered at UAB provide an exciting environment of learning and discovery.
There are exceptional training and educational opportunities awaiting postdoctoral fellows, medical students, and graduate students in the CMDB theme that will prepare them for successful and rewarding careers in academia, government, biotechnology, pharmaceutical research, or any career requiring strong training in critical thinking and the scientific method.
