Program Description:

The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics offers a program of coursework, laboratory research and counseling leading to the Ph.D. degree. This training is designed to prepare students to plan and implement their own research and teaching programs in a wide variety of professional careers. To ensure a broad background, students take coursework in Biochemistry, as well as in the Departments of Cell Biology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Physiology and Biophysics, or Chemistry. First-year students participate in the Cellular and Molecular Biology Program (a unified course program staffed principally by faculty from the Departments of Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology and Neurobiology).
