Program Description:
The Integrative Biomedical Sciences (IBS) Graduate Program is to prepare students with basic science and/or clinical interests to pursue an academic or industrial career in the field of biomedical research. Students accepted to the IBS Graduate Program will receive full funding (tuition, fees, health insurance, and a competative stipend). Completion of the IBS Gradaute Program guarantees acceptance into 1 of the 4 participating doctoral programs. The IBS Graduate Program is based on the premise that exposure of students to both the principles of cellular and molecular biology as well as the organ-based biomedical sciences of pharmacology, physiology, and pathology--spanning the molecule to the organism--will prepare them to understand and integrate physiological processes at any level of organization. Using the techniques of cellular and molecular biology, graduates obtaining the Ph.D. degree in one of the participating departments will make important contributions to the understanding of disease mechanisms and rational approaches toward therapy.
