Program Information

Degree Offered

MSc Integrated Petroleum Geoscience

Format: Campus

Program Description:

The course teaches the skills necessary for hydrocarbon exploration and recovery, so graduates from the course are ready to perform in industry as petroleum geoscientists. In particular, to provide a broad, 'all-round' preparation suitable for a wide-range of employment situations in an increasingly mobile, international and dynamic industry. Developing the knowledge needed to communicate with, and work synergistically alongside, the numerous other engineering and scientific disciplines involved in hydrocarbon recovery is important, especially as the industry is pushing towards small but multi-disciplinary teams to develop and manage its assets.

Accreditation:

NA

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must have an Upper Second Class or better Honours degree (or overseas equivalent) in a scientific discipline. Because we have to assume a certain level of starting knowledge, we have a strong preference for the first degree to be in Geology, Geophysics, or a joint degree incorporating Geology as a major component.

International Student Requirements:

Applicants must have an Upper Second Class or better Honours degree (or overseas equivalent) in a scientific discipline. Because we have to assume a certain level of starting knowledge, we have a strong preference for the first degree to be in Geology, Geophysics, or a joint degree incorporating Geology as a major component. It is essential that you can speak and write English fluently. Without this ability, you will find great difficulty in understanding lectures, producing reports and other written work, and sitting exams. The University is willing to accept a number of different qualifications providing evidence of proficiency in English. If you are in any doubt about your proficiency, contact the British Council or equivalent office in your country and seek to take the IELTS test, which is the test favoured by the University.
