Program Description:

The Graduate School of Education has designed an Advanced Graduate Certificate program in gifted education for teachers interested in developing the particular potential and addressing the specific needs of high ability students. The program coursework is offered completely online and is comprised of 15 credit hours. GSE's program is aligned to the New York State Department of Education requirements. This program is intended for those that already have teacher certification.
What types of students would I be prepared to teach?
There are many definitions for students deemed "gifted" or "high ability." Rather than choose a specific definition, we will refer to the description provided by New York State—gifted pupils are defined as "pupils who show evidence of high performances capability and exceptional potential in areas such as general intellectual ability, special academic aptitude and outstanding ability in visual and performing arts. Such definition shall include those pupils who require educational programs or services beyond those normally provided by the regular school program in order to realize their full potential."
