M.S.-Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist
Program Description:
The program prepares baccalaureate nurses for advanced practice nursing as Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) in one of two specialty areas: Adult/Medical-Surgical and Geriatrics. These specialty areas will prepare CNSs to function as healthcare team members in managing and coordinating the care of the adult, especially the older adult population, in tertiary, secondary, primary care, and homecare settings. The CNS’s practice is directed toward improving patient care and nursing practice. The roles of the CNS are multifaceted. The specialty areas will provide CNS students with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage patient health problems through direct care, consultation, research, education, and leadership roles. Concepts related to cultural competency and health promotion activities will be integrated throughout the program.
