Program Information
Degree Offered
Master of Public Health (MPH) with concentrations in: Community Health; Global Health; Joint MSPAS/MPH, DO/MPH Dual Degree, Graduate Certificate in Public Health (GCPH)
Format: Campus
Program Description:
All MPH students receive comprehensive education in the core courses of public health: epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, behavioral aspect of public health, and health administration services. In all classes, whether required or elected, the emphasis is on the relevancy of information and skills to public health practice in local or global community settings.
The most noted courses are the Field Study and a self-designed Capstone Project covered in the student's last term. These courses allow students to integrate what they have learned into a “real-world” public health practice in a community-based setting amoung needy local and international communities.
The program will also train students to effectively undertake applied studies into the integrated causes of poor health among disadvantaged families and communities. This will entail increasing their abilities to ask relevant public health questions and identify priority determinants affecting prevailing public health conditions. It will also comprise strengthening their abilities to identify the link between the health disparities and critically analyze the cause and effect and explore possible remedies. As a preliminary step to this process, trainees will be guided to conduct their studies among poor and disenfranchised communities at home or abroad.
