Program Description:

Special Education is a synthesis of a multidisciplinary body of knowledge relevant to the understanding, education, and treatment of persons with handicapping conditions. Touro's Special Education program is dedicated to serving the needs of schools in the general New York Metropolitan area that work with children and youth who have mental, emotional, and learning disorders, especially in under-served segments of that population.

The Graduate Division of the School of Education and Psychology was created in 1993 and received State of New York approval for its first graduate degree programs in 1995. The Graduate School was established on the basis of a firm conviction that education is one of the most important tools for bringing about continuous improvement in the conditions of life for all people. The Graduate School of Education currently offers six graduate degree programs and three certificate programs leading to New York State certification in different fields.
