Program Information

Degree Offered

M.S.-Multidisciplinary Science

Program Description:

The Master of Science in Multidisciplinary Science (MSCI) degree is designed to meet the professional needs of middle and secondary school science teachers and elementary teachers by expanding their science and math content knowledge.

Beginning in summer 2008, Texas Tech University will deliver the Master of Science in Multidisciplinary Science via a technology-enhanced, blended delivery format including online, interactive videoconferencing (IVC), and face-to-face meetings.

The program will be delivered to a cohort of students who will be admitted during the spring of 2008. Students will take one course each fall and spring and two courses in the summer over a three-year period, summer 2008 to spring 2011.

The curriculum consists of graduate courses in the sciences, mathematics and science education, culminating with a comprehensive application-based portfolio. Teachers complete 33 hours of graduate courses in science and mathematics and three graduate hours in science education. These courses provide a strong, broad-based background in science and mathematics content and also emphasize major concepts and their cross-disciplinary teaching and learning applications.

Face-to-face sessions each summer will be held at the TTU Center at Junction for a three week period with some online post-course work. Courses taught via IVC will require attendance at one of Texas Tech's off campus education sites - TTU at Fredericksburg, TTU at Highland Lakes or TTU Center at Junction. Depending on demand, these courses may be delivered to other sites. Email Dr. Ratna Narayan to inquire about possible delivery to other sites.

Classes are delivered using one or combination's of formats including web-based instruction and interactive video conferences. A three-week stay at TTU Center at Junction is required.
