Program Description:

The mission of the Biostatistics Group in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, School of Rural Public Health, Texas A&M Health Science Center is threefold: research, teaching and service.

In studies of public health, medical and biological sciences many problems are addressed by collecting and exploring relevant data. The development and application of techniques to better understand such data is the research focus of the Biostatistics Group. Current departmental statistical expertise is in biological processes, statistical genetics, survival and longitudinal data analysis, and statistical computing. Faculty members' research projects are supported by Federal and State grants.

The Biostatistics Group works closely with the Statistics Department of Texas A&M University to offer graduate programs leading to Master of Public Health (MPH) and Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH), with concentration in Biostatistics. These programs are geared toward students who have a mathematical or statistical background with a major interest in the biomedical sciences, or those with a degree in the biological/biomedical sciences who are interested in pursuing a career in biostatistics.

Faculty members actively collaborate with colleagues in the College of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, other departments of the School of Rural Public Health, and other departments within Texas A&M university. In addition, the biostatistics faculty collaborate with other universities as well as state and federal agencies. The group provides assistance on grant writing, study design, and data analysis for many health-related studies.
