Degree Offered

Certificate in Conflict Resolution and Mediation

Format: Campus

Program Description:

In 1995, the ICCCR developed a concentration in conflict resolution at Teachers College. Graduate Studies in Conflict Resolution involves a 16-credit series of courses leading to a Certificate of Attendance. We are currently in the process of applying to to change our Certificate of Attendance to an Advanced Certificate in Conflict Resolution. In addition to our established courses, we began introducing new leading-edge courses as electives for those involved in the certificate program or for those wanting to expand their knowledge and skill base. We have offered workshops on topics such as: 1) Participatory Action Research (PAR), Social Justice and Conflict Resolution; 2) Conflict and Complexity: A Dynamical Systems Approach to Addressing Protracted Conflict; and 3) Healing and Reconciling Relationships in Conflict. These workshops present state-of-the-art theory and practice. Since 1997, the ICCCR has experienced strong, consistent educational and financial growth in its Graduate Studies in Conflict Resolution, which it has offered through the Office of Continuing Education, Outreach and Innovation (CEO&I) and the Department of Organization and Leadership at Teachers College, Columbia University. Over the years, we have grown from 7 courses attracting 307 students in 1997 to more than 30 courses that we develop and offer as a vehicle for making current research and theory actionable. The Center staff and Instructors have worked diligently to provide the highest quality, up-to-date instruction and training.
