M.A. -Botanical Healing

Program Description:

This is the first Master's Degree in herbal medicine program in the country. Students may concentrate their program in three main areas of study: clinical practice, research, ethnobotany or production and standards of botanical remedies. The Institute's quarter century of experience in teaching and clinical practice is based on an ancient philosophy rooted in nature. Tai Sophia is dedicated to graduating people prepared for employment in the $4.5 billion American herb industry as advisors, consultants, teachers, clinicians, and professional staff hired bynatural product companies, pharmacies, medical centers, private practices, and educational institutions. * Students in the new Botanical Healing program will learn the skills necessary to recreate the neighborhood apothecary tradition as knowledgeable individuals making and selling their own products and interacting directly with clients. * Students will be prepared to serve as bridges between the worlds of conventional medicine and traditional healing practices. Knowledge of both worlds and their language is an essential component of the effective and responsible translation. * Students will spend time with Jim Duke in his "Green Farmacy," an herbal garden three miles from our new campus. * Materia medical courses will be directed case study projects as part of an international partnership creating an academically rigorous and accessible database on botanical medicine. * Students will be able to evaluate treatment options based on the best evidence available.
