Program Description:
The Master of Arts Degree in Speech-Language Pathology at SUNY Plattsburgh is designed to serve the educational needs of students seeking a terminal clinical degree or to provide a foundation for those who desire an advanced graduate degree.
Advantages of the CDS Program
A comprehensive curriculum.
In addition to the traditional disorders classes, the program contains separate courses on augmentative/alternative communication disorders, dysphagia, cognitive rehabilitation, and socio-communicative, cognitive and behavioral correlates of communication disorders (i.e., autism, auditory/language processing disorders, ADHD, selective mutism, etc.).
Students have full access to faculty.
An open-door policy emphasizes the departmental philosophy that our students’ education is the first priority.
A large on-campus speech-language-hearing clinic
Adults and children from the Northern New York State are served in our large (14 therapy and observation rooms) on-campus speech and hearing clinic. Students obtain experience with a wide variety of clients for individual therapy or for group therapy).
Diverse off-campus clinical experiences.
Students obtain experience at the local hospital for in-patient and out- patient evaluation/treatment services. Area public schools also provide many clinical placements for our students. Other experiences include: private practices concentrating on early intervention services, institutions for developmentally delayed individuals, nursing homes, etc.
State-of-the-art lab experiences.
The voice/speech science lab contains state-of-the-art equipment including digital stroboscopy, swallowing signals lab, nasometer, airflow measurement, computer speech lab, VisiPitch II with ESL software, electroglottographic equipment, and more.
Accreditation:
SUNY Plattsburgh is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. The Speech-Language Pathology Programs are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

International Student Requirements:
1. Students whose native language is not English must submit official documentation of their Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score. Required score: 550 or above (paper-based) or 79-80 or above (internet-based).
2. International students must provide official documents to prove that they have enough money to pay for their education, estimated at $26,000 per year.
