Program Description:

SUNY Plattsburgh offers a Master of Science for Teachers (M.S.T.), leading to initial New York State Education Department (NYSED) certification for grades 7-12, at both the Main Campus in Plattsburgh and the Branch Campus at the Adirondack Community College (ACC) in Queensbury.

Accreditation:

SUNY Plattsburgh is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. Education undergraduate and graduate programs in childhood education, adolescence education, literacy education, and special education are accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution with a GPA of at least 2.75 on a 4.00 scale in a liberal arts major aligned with subject areas in New York State Standards for Learning.
2. Completion of an M.S.T. Adolescence Preparatory Worksheet in your chosen content area, detailing undergraduate coursework requirements that must be met PRIOR to matriculation into this graduate program.
3. Demonstration of literacy skills and potential for success through a written statement of purpose.
4. Three (3) letters of recommendation.
5. Resume.
6. Four-page application form.
7. $75 application fee.
8. Attendance at an on-campus interview, if invited.

International Student Requirements:

1. Students whose native language is not English must submit official documentation of their Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score. Required score: 550 or above (paper-based) or 79-80 or above (internet-based). 2. International students must provide official documents to prove that they have enough money to pay for their education, estimated at $26,000 per year.
