Program Description:
The graduate program in Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) is designed for strong teachers who want to improve their teaching skills. Teachers applying to this program ordinarily hold certification in areas such as art, biology, chemistry, earth science, English, mathematics, music, physics, social studies, French, Spanish, and childhood education. This program, approved by SUNY and NYSED, meets the requirements of both Provisional and Initial certificate holders. Students may pursue the program at SUNY Plattsburgh’s Main or Branch Campus at Adirondack Community College.

SUNY Plattsburgh is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York. Education undergraduate and graduate programs in childhood education, adolescence education, literacy education, and special education are accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC)
Eligibility Requirements:
Appropriate preparation at the baccalaureate level;
Completed Graduate Study Application Form with required supporting materials;
Evidence of a 2.75 undergraduate GPA on a 4.0 scale;
Evidence of superior achievement in courses most closely allied with the student’s teaching or certification area(s);
Three letters of recommendation that address your ability to take part in a graduate program in education;
Statement of purpose, indicating why you want to enter this program;
Copy of your teaching certificate at the elementary and/or secondary level (Applicants with provisional, rather than initial, certification need to have completed only the LAST and ATWS at the time of admission.); and
Availability of program openings.

International Student Requirements:
1. Students whose native language is not English must submit official documentation of their Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score. Required score: 550 or above (paper-based) or 79-80 or above (internet-based).
2. International students must provide official documents to prove that they have enough money to pay for their education, estimated at $25,000 per year.
