Program Description:

Students select among three concentrations leading to a MSEd in Physical Education: Adapted Physical Education, Athletic Administration or Teacher Education/Pedagogy.

Our nation’s first concentration in Adapted Physical Education began at the College at Brockport in 1968.
Today’s graduates are physical educators teaching inclusive physical education; adapted physical education specialists, physical education consultants, supervisors or administrators in schools or agencies; faculty in higher education; and teachers, coaches and leaders in adapted sport programs. Students work closely with faculty involved in nationally funded research activities, state funded training projects, and demonstration projects. Students benefit as the College’s hosts The Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged and Camp Abilities, a summer sports camp for children with visual impairments. Many graduates pursue state certification in administration and doctoral degrees for leadership in higher education.

The Athletic Administration concentration prepares athletic administrators for school-based organizations such as secondary schools, junior/community colleges, colleges and universities. The concentration also covers the management of school-related sports programs including preparation of athletic directors, assistant or associate athletic directors, sports information directors, sports promoters and fundraisers. The concentration includes six credits of research courses and 24 credits of concentration courses with a culminating writing project or an internship.

The Teacher Education/Pedagogy concentration upgrades the skills of in-service physical education teachers in the public school systems and leads to professional certification. This concentration involves the completion of six credits of research courses, six credits of courses in curriculum and analysis of teaching, 12-15 credits of electives, and three to six credits of a culminating writing project.

Accreditation:

All teacher education programs at the College at Brockport are accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

International Student Requirements:

1. Official or true certified copies of post-secondary academic records (transcripts, examination scores, mark sheets, etc.) in both English and original language. 2. Official or true certified copies of diploma, degree, or certification, in both English and original language. 3. TOEFL exam results. Required minimum scores are: 550 on paper-based version, 213 on computerized version or 79-80 on iBT. 4. A statement of objectives in English that gives reasons for selecting the field of study (see application for details). 5. An original bank statement (issued in the last six months) in your name or that of your sponsor showing a current balance of at least US $23,870. 6. An original letter written, signed and dated by your sponsor, stating the amount of US dollars allocated for your education each year while attending The College at Brockport. This is not required if the financial/bank statement is in applicant's name. 7. Letters of recommendation (see application).
