Program Description:
The Department of Educational Administration offers two programs awarding a post-masters Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) degree: Educational Administration (EDA) and School Business Administration (SBA). EDA courses are offered in two formats: open enrollment and cycles. Open enrollment courses meet at the College’s MetroCenter in downtown Rochester on Saturdays and/or a weeknight. Cycles, arranged in collaboration with regional BOCES, are offered at off-campus locations. SBA courses are offered only in a cycle format, with courses held on Saturdays.
The EDA program is a 60-credit program. Admission requirements include a master's degree, at least one year of appropriate experience, and a letter of recommendation addressing specific skills and behaviors. Students receive 24 transfer credits for the master's. The remaining 36 required credits include a practicum in educational leadership, an administrative internship, and both direct instruction and field experiences in central office administration. EDA graduates are eligible to apply for both School Building Leader (SBL) and School District Leader (SDL) certifications from the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
The SBA program is a 66-credit program. Students entering the program without a master's degree may earn the master's degree as part of this program. Students entering with a master's degree receive 24 transfer credits for the master's. The remaining required 42 credits include 30 credits of courses, a 6-credit practicum, and a 6-credit administrative internship. SBA graduates are eligible to apply for the SDBL (School District Business Leader) certification from NYSED.
The Department has an articulation agreement with the Margaret Warner Graduate School at the University of Rochester (U of R) to help program graduates enter and complete an EdD in educational administration. The U of R offers, on a competitive basis, two scholarships per year to program graduates.
