Overview:
In the MA in Teaching program, you’ll gain a full understanding of teaching practices in such areas as instruction, technology, assessment and curriculum design. You’ll learn to promote and develop learning opportunities for students, and be a leader for administrative and organizational improvements within schools and other educational settings.
Graduates of this program can pursue Texas teacher certification in subjects like math, science or language. They might become curriculum writers for state education agencies, directors of children’s camps, or owners of private tutoring firms. They are also prepared to enter PhD programs in Curriculum and Instruction. Recent graduates have found positions as teachers, college preparatory educators and sports coaches.

CORE COURSES
Students complete core courses, including Foundations of Education, Integrating Technology in the Classroom, and Assessment in Curriculum and Instruction.
CONCENTRATIONS
Students complete one of six concentrations: Initial Teacher Certification, Teacher Leadership, Conflict Resolution, Special Education, Sports Management or Liberal Arts.
RESEARCH
Students take Research Sequence courses determined by their concentration, including Action Research or Thesis Research. Typically, projects focus on real interests or questions facing teachers today, such as classroom management, teaching strategies and special education intervention.
INTERNSHIP
Students pursuing teacher certification will complete two semesters of field experience teaching in local schools. There are several opportunities for field experiences during the program, ranging from small group tutoring to a complete semester of student teaching.
