Program Information

Degree Offered

Master of Science in Nursing - Clinical Nurse Leader

Format: Online

Program Description:

The CNL is a new, innovative approach to masters level education for nurses. The role emerged in response to a national initiative to improve patient care and better prepare nurses to thrive in the present and future health delivery system environment. Students complete an in depth practice curricula as well as participate in creative interdisiplinary collaboration. The CNL program takes into account educational, career, and life experiences as well as critical thinking ability and maturity in preparation to become a leader in nursing and health care.

Our CNL program educates individuals to provide leadership at the point of care. Coursework is designed to prepare students to affect positive patient outcomes by leading individualized, evidence-based plans of care for patients and families. CNLs will be prepared to collect and evaluate patient outcomes, assess cohort risk, and use decision-making authority to change care plans when necessary. The CNL will function as part of an interdisciplinary team by communicating, planning, and implementing care directly with other health care professionals, including physicians, pharmacists, social workers, and advanced practice nurses. The CNL will be prepared to direct care at the unit level. This could be direct care in an inpatient hospital unit, in an outpatient environment, or in a public/community health setting.

A combination of methods are utilized to deliver the CNL curriculum at Spring Hill. Coursework is offered online in five 8-week terms per year, and is supplemented by site visits by Spring Hill faculty and clinical integration with local preceptors. Students can complete the program in their local communities and work settings. Our nursing faculty are committed to delivering high quality nursing education with a personal touch.
