SMU's Graduate Program in Religious Studies conceives the study of religion as a humanistic discipline, encompassing a variety of methods and approaches. It is designed to prepare students for both teaching and scholarship, whether in departments of religious studies or in theological seminaries. To this end, the program places a high premium on independent study carried out under the personal direction of a distinguished faculty.
