Program Information

Degree Offered

MSEd

Format: Campus

Program Description:

Because learning can happen anywhere and anytime, SAU’s Master’s in Outdoor Teacher Education program has been developed to help classroom teachers, outdoor professionals, and youth workers effectively use God’s book of nature in their teaching and outdoor programs. Using the outdoor classroom allows a variety of learning styles to be addressed efficiently and effectively. Teachers and other professionals alike can use the outdoors to help children and teens solve real life problems. Those in the program also develop practical skills, such as outdoor site development and how to use outdoor activities as therapeutic tools.

STUDY OPTIONS
Classroom Teacher Summer Field School
The summer field school attendance option is designed for K-12 teachers who would like to use outdoor laboratories to enrich the classroom curriculum. Typically, the teacher will attend three consecutive eight-week summer field school sessions in order to complete the degree.

Outdoor Professional Intensives
These intensive sessions are designed for outdoor professionals (camp directors, naturalists, etc.) who need to continue working while enrolled in classes. To accommodate their work schedules, each semester requires attendance of a 10-day intensive with additional projects and/or assignments to be completed individually after the session.
