Program Description:

In the 21st century, creativity is more than an artistic hobby - it's an essential instrument of success. A specialization in Creativity Studies allows students to tap into one of the most essential movements in business, education, and the arts: the recognition that this is a creativity driven economy. Saybrook's program in creativity is distinguished by its comprehensive approach and applicability to a broad range of professional pursuits. Students have pursued research on creativity in the arts, creativity over the lifespan, creativity in business and government, teacher training to recognize and encourage creativity, the impact of creative expression on health, and the use of collaborative expressive arts to support parent/child relationships, among other areas.
Students in the program will receive a theoretical and practical understanding of the creative process - including theoretical models, psychological components, sociological implications, creativity in organizations, and the factors that encourage or discourage creativity.
