PsyD

Program Description:

Focused on training the next generation of clinical practitioners, Saybrook's PsyD program offers students the unique opportunity to integrate contemporary clinical thinking and empirical research with values that emerged through a long history the field of psychology. The result is training in a cutting edge framework that meets the needs of people in the 21st century - a more holistic view of the individual, community and the world to foster well-being. The PsyD program emphasizes four themes key to the integrative model: an integrative humanistic approach to the self as healer; identity development across the lifespan; the importance of multicultural knowledge and cultural context; and a mind-body-community-spirit perspective.
In addition to these over-arching themes and the core required curriculum, students complete three Special Topics courses in a selected area of emphasis that supports their professional development and career goals. These may be in areas already offered by the program or may be developed in consultation with faculty with appropriate expertise if not already available. Areas available or reflected in current student plans include some currently emerging areas and forward-looking skill sets in demand in the field today, such as: adolescent psychology; late adult life / geropsychology; trauma and PTSD; mind-body medicine / integrative mental health; integrative mindfulness and mindfulness-based therapies; Jungian psychology; dreams; Native American cultures and issues; and neuropsychology.
