Program Description:
The Ecology Program Area (EPA) of the Biology Department is one of the strongest research and teaching units in the CSU system as measured by grant activity, faculty accomplishments, advanced degrees awarded, and success of its students. The EPA's mission is to provide excellence in research and education in ecology and environmental biology. To achieve this goal, the EPA has identified three programmatic focal areas: Conservation and Restorative Ecology, Coastal Marine Ecology, and Ecosystem Ecology and Global Change. The Master's program is central to the EPA's mission. Graduate students participate in research programs that contribute to basic science and provide answers to real world questions and concerns. We feel that the integration of basic and applied research provides our students with experience valuable in a diversity of future employment opportunities. The program emphasizes quantitative approaches and the framing of problems from the context of ecological theory.
