Degree Offered
M.A.-Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, Graduate Certificate in TESOL; Diploma Program
Format: Campus, Online
Program Description:
The Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL) is a 36-credit program of preparation to teach English to speakers of other languages in the US or overseas. Special tracks include the Master’s International (Peace Corps) Program and public school licensure (51 credits). The Graduate Certificate offers a 24-credit abbreviated alternative to the Master’s. The four-week summer TESOL Diploma program may be applied toward the MATESOL degree for four credits of advanced standing. MATESOL applicants must have a bachelor's degree or the equivalent from an accredited college or university. International students with non-US degrees must have their transcripts evaluated course by course by an outside agency confirming the equivalent of a US bachelor's degree. MATESOL courses are offered year-round during late afternoon and evening hours, with daytime courses during summer. The program may be completed in three or four full-time terms, or part time over three or four summers. A hybrid online option involves two summers on campus, with two intervening semesters online. Part-time students may take up to seven years to complete the degree.
