Program Description:

The advanced study programs in Biosecurity and Disaster Preparedness at Saint Louis University School of Public Health are the first distance-learning programs of their kind to focus on infectious biological agents. The programs emphasize skills required for biosecurity professionals, such as emergency management, homeland security, epidemiology, communicable disease management and disaster/pandemic planning. Students may participate in our programs in one of four ways:
--Master of Science (MS) degree in Biosecurity & Disaster Preparedness (42 credits)
--Master of Public Health (MPH) with a concentration in Biosecurity & Disaster Preparedness (48 credits)
--Certificate in Biosecurity & Disaster Preparedness (15 credits)
--PhD in Public Health: Biosecurity & Disaster Preparedness (72 credits, including dissertation)
All of the BSDP classes are online, so students in the MS, MPH and Certificate programs can maintain their residence while taking classes (the PhD requires 2-3 years of residency). However, because of the unique design of the program, all students will enjoy direct contact with their instructors and peers through a series of interactive and multimedia methods. Included in the classes are ongoing discussion boards in which students and instructors participate, chat boards for student contact, PowerPoint and lecture presentations, and DVDs sent directly to students, online instructor evaluation and online test-taking.
