Program Description:

There are three Master in Science degree program options, all of which are taught entirely using distance technology through the School of Public Health at Saint Louis University, a fully accredited school of public health. The General Track degree can be completed in two and a half years if two courses are completed each semester. The MS degrees are targeted to non-traditional working students who wish to take advantage of the distance-learning format. Successful students in these programs are self-directed, motivated adult learners who are critical thinkers and who can work independently in a non-traditional environment. Distance technology permits a student to decide when they will study and how long it will take them to get their degree. Students in the MS program can choose any of the three special interest tracks listed below:
• The General track (42 credit hours) is designed for students pursuing careers in all-hazards emergency management, disaster preparedness, or disaster response. Graduates may find employment in local, state or federal emergency management agencies, public health or healthcare organizations or in private industry.
• The Infection Control track (45 credit hours) will focus rigorously on planning, identification, and response & recovery from infectious and/or communicable disease, and the healthcare and public health implications for managing infectious disease outbreaks. Graduates can anticipate working closely with various response agencies to identify and contain such outbreaks within healthcare settings or in a community.
• The Medical & Public Health Intelligence track (45 credit hours) will train individuals to identify and assess public health threats to individuals, agencies, and nations from terrorists, humans, animals, and the environment. Graduates can anticipate working at the local, state, or federal level with multidisciplinary teams designed to identify and control homeland security threats, such cyber terrorism, natural disasters, pandemics, or suicide bombers.
