Program Information

Degree Offered

Healthcare Information Systems

Format: Hybrid, Online

Program Description:

Healthcare information technology makes it possible for healthcare providers to better manage patient care through secure use and sharing of health information. Professionals who are aware of the interconnection between information technology, people, healthcare, and the healthcare system are in short supply. In this Master's program you will gain the knowledge and skills needed to use information technology in order to improve healthcare delivery and ultimately enhance patient outcomes.

Sacred Heart's online MS in HIS will complement the knowledge and expertise of professionals currently involved in healthcare information technology. However, the program’s plan of study also accommodates the needs of healthcare professionals with little knowledge of computing and information technology experience as well as for IT professionals with little knowledge of healthcare environments and who seek employment and/or advancement in a health care information technology setting. You will gain the knowledge and skills to make an immediate impact in healthcare information technology.

Employment of health information technicians is expected to increase by 20%, much faster than the average, for all occupations through 2018, according to the US Department of Labor. With increasing use of electronic health records, more technicians and tech-savvy health practitioners will be needed to address the new responsibilities associated with electronic data management.

This unique ONLINE program is specifically designed to maximize the number of potential career
roles the HIS Professional will assume.
