Program Description:

Our mission is to help create well-rounded, interesting sociologists. The department has four specialty areas that deserve special mention. The culture and cognition specialty concentrates on how people think and act on the symbolism that pervades everyday life. The economic sociology specialty concentrates on how social life organizes economic behavior. The gender specialty concentrates on the myriad ways gender structures everyday life at macro and micro levels. The medical sociology specialty concentrates on social factors that affect health and illness and the system of medical care.
