M.A.-Clinical Mental Health Counseling
Program Description:
The focus of the Masters Program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is to prepare students to become mental health counselors who are involved in the prevention and treatment of a variety of different mental health issues and problems in living. Students receive a comprehensive background in the psychological theories, empirical research findings, counseling skills, and treatment approaches necessary for the effective delivery of services in a variety of mental health settings and with diverse client backgrounds. The program consists of 60 credit hours of course work. Students are also required to complete at least 600 hours of supervised practice in mental health settings during their practicum classes within the program. The 60 hours of total credits are necessary for certification from the National Board of Certified Counselors and to qualify to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in New Jersey.
