We have an internationally recognised , which hosts a range of projects, including historical, analytical and anthropological studies, and choreography. The Centre is an important platform for dance scholars and researching artists from all over the world.
Staff are active in practice based and other research, with work performed at leading dance venues and presented at major academic conferences in the UK and abroad.
Our ‘Music and Dance’ research cluster was awarded the highest possible ranking (5*) in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise carried out by the Higher Education Funding Council of England.
Roehampton is also one of the three constituent institutions of the AHRB Research Centre for Cross-cultural Music and Dance Performance, the other two being the University of Surrey and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. The Centre is engaged in research covering music and dance across Asia and Africa and runs seminars and residencies by its resident performer researchers and research fellows, drawn from an international community.
